Prickle Patch, a four-year-old gelding by Restrepo, took full advantage of a perfect trip to post his maiden success at his second start at Melton on Friday night (July 23).
Starting from the pole, the gelding sat behind the leader before finishing powerfully to prevail in the last stride.
The mile rate for the 1720 metres was 1:58.3. He tramped the last 800 in a slick 57.3 seconds.
Bred, raced and trained by David Sweatman, Prickle Patch is out of the 10-win mare Chabachon 1:58.8 (by Chandon), who left earlier winners in Vetness (1:57) and Blazing Courage (1:59.8).
Restrepo has the amazing siring score of eight winners from nine starters from 13 foals of racing age. Of his first crop of eight foals, seven are winners.
